A Fine Day for the Long Way Around:
Thank You for Our Biggest DGR Yet

Sunday came up clear in Goshen, and so did about sixty of you.

This year, Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride was the biggest one Janus Motorcycles has ever been part of. More than 60 riders pulled on their finest, put their side stands up, and rolled out together for a cause worth dressing up for. By the end of the day, we had raised $4,593 for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health.

That’s a number we’re proud of. But the number we keep coming back to is sixty. Sixty people who could have spent a Sunday any number of ways and instead chose to spend it on two wheels, in good company, for someone they may never meet. That’s the whole idea of a ride like this: you go the long way around on purpose, and you do it for a reason bigger than the ride itself.

It was a classic DGR kind of day. Pressed collars and polished tanks. Old motorcycles and new ones. Riders who’ve been doing this for years, next to a few who showed up not suite sure what they’d signed up for and left already planning for next May. The kind of slow, deliberate, deeply unhurried motorcycling we build our motorcycles for in the first place.

We couldn’t have done it without a couple of friends, and we’d like to thank them properly.

Thank you to MotoCult. A ride this size doesn’t just happen, it takes people who know how to bring a community together and make everyone feel welcomed the moment they roll in. MotoCult did exactly that, and the day was warmer for it. They also lent us our press vehicle for the day, a beautiful VW Thing that rolled along with the group so we could capture the ride as it happened. It was the right car for the job: an open-top, yellow beauty. An absolute classic all the way through. Classic enough, in fact, that we had to talk to the Thing now and then to help it reach its destination. It got there. They always do, if you’re patient and you ask nicely. Thank you, Moto Cult, for helping us host a morning that felt like the best version of what motorcycling can be and for letting us document it from the best seat in the house. If you want to see what that seat saw, we put together a recap of the day and a photo album; it’s the next best thing to having ridden along.

Thank you to Triumph Elkhart and Triumph Motorcycles. Triumph has been part of the fabric of classic and gentlemanly riding for longer than most, and having them alongside us for the ride meant a great deal. Thank you for your support, and for showing up for the same things we care about: good machines, good roads, and looking after one another.

And thank you to every rider who turned out. To the folks who fundraised, who donated, who dusted off a jacket they hadn’t worn since last year’s ride. To the people who waved from the sidewalk and asked what it was all about. You made this our biggest DGR yet, and you reminded us why we keep doing it.

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is one day a year. But the reason behind it, looking out for the men in our lives, and being honest about the things that are hard to talk about, is a year-round job. If Sunday’s ride did its work, a few more of those conversations will happen because of it.

We’ll see you at the next one. Same finest. Same long way around. We are hopeful to host an even bigger group next time.

Ride well, and ramble on.
