This week, we had the opportunity to test out a new action camera on a beautiful Northern Indiana summer morning. The DJI Osmo Action 4 looks a lot like a GoPro but has its own unique flavor of action camera abilities.

With this latest model, DJI is promoting best-in-class image quality thanks to a larger sensor. This ride was recorded at 4K resolution and 60FPS with DJI’s new D-Log M color mode with Horizon Balancing that keeps the image level even when leaning through corners. After a very slight color grade in Premiere Pro, the video was exported at 4K 30fps for upload. I was very happy with the resolution and color the camera was able to achieve.

Additionally, the camera has dual touch screens. The screen on the front can even be used to change settings and preview previously recorded media. It also works well as a vlogging camera because there is a preview of what the image looks like right on the front next to the lens.

I’ve had trouble with a GoPro Hero 8 running out of battery in the past while on long rides. After recording for around 55 minutes total, the DJI Osmo Action 4 still had 40% battery left in the tank. There is a USB-C port as well that can handle charging on the fly.

While we won’t be able to keep this camera, it was a fun experiment to see how it performs on a motorcycle. There was some audible wind noise when at speed but overall I was impressed with the color, resolution, and battery life of the new DJI Osmo Action 4.
